HOA REFORM CAN BE A REALITY

It started with a small group of concerned residents meeting at the Black Eyed Pea on September 5th, 2009. The concern – a petition that was circulating to drastically change the restrictive covenants for single family homes in the Meadowcreek subdivision, along with an increase in the annual maintenance assessment for these properties.

It culminated in a resounding victory for reform candidates at the annual meeting held on January 9th, 2010. Four board positions were on the ballot, and reform candidates prevailed in all sections. This win represents the first time in years that new and fresh ideas will be a norm rather than the exception on the Meadowcreek Association board of directors.

A big “Thank You” to all of the volunteers that gave time, effort and sometimes a little cash (for supplies, copies, etc.) to make this a reality. And don't forget the shoe leather - miles and miles of shoe leather. It only goes to prove that a few who think big can make a difference. Here's a few of the hard workers at the clubhouse:

Now it’s time to unite the neighborhood and turn our thoughts to how we can make our neighborhood greater than before. And congratulations to the victorious candidates:

Position 2: Kenneth Murphy
Position 4: Willie Jones
Position 6: Philip Philipose
Position 8: Milbry Smith

We, your neighbors, look forward to bigger and better things in Meadowcreek.

  1. A big congrats. Now if this attitude could pick up steam across the city and county we would see local efforts to reform our local governments and take back control from the special interest!

  2. My wife and I are both grateful for the turn out and the turn over of the HOA board members. Now it's up to the newly elected board members to remember who elected them and why we elected them to be our sounding voices to key items to be addressed.

I would be more then happy to help out anyway I can to do my part. We hope the new board members take note of the past and lead us into the future with our eyes wide open and not poked.

Thanks to everyone that turned out, power to the people.

  4. Getting rid of Marshall Management (MM) is a great start to a New Year. Next years annual meeting those board members that are still on the board will have their seats up for relection and we can remove them as well. If the new board members need another name of a great management company I would be happy to give you a name and contact person. They have done a great job for other subdivisons I've know and lived in. Lets make sure MM turns over everything they have on file, "ON MICRO FILM" as they stated in the annual meeting! Lets leave no stone unturned. Lets hold them responsible for thier mismanagement advice.

  5. I missed that comment at the meeting. Everything is stored on microfilm? Gee - I would have thought that CD or ZIP drive might be more effective. Wonder whether the accountant uses an abacus?

  6. Microfilm is easier to place out of reach and you get to charge storage fees and such. Nothing like vendors!
